We visited the new shoe factory of Samelin AS, a long-term member of the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association, where nearly 7 million euros were invested. The factory, opened at the end of July, is the most modern in the Baltic states, with an area of 6400 square meters, and together with the company Soleest, it provides jobs to about 100 people. The factory is capable of producing 500 pairs of boots and 800 pairs of boot covers per day. Moreover, 60% of the production goes to the internal security and defense sector.
In 2017, the company led by Leida Kikka was named the Defense Industry Company of the Year. Since the same year, military footwear has been manufactured for various NATO army units.
Most of Samelin’s clients are located in Scandinavia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Latvia, Lithuania, and Canada.
Samelin also actively supports Ukraine, having donated almost a thousand pairs of boots and felt insoles to soldiers.
