Yesterday, the Baltic-German Defence Industry Conference took place in Vilnius, highlighting the Baltic arms industry’s role in contributing to European arms production.
During the panel discussion, Taavi Veskimägi, Chairman of the Council of the Estonian Defence and Aerospace Industry Association, emphasized the importance of collaboration:
“Defence industry cooperation between the Baltic States and Germany is crucial. However, it is equally important to establish a strong EU-wide internal market for defense products. This is an absolute prerequisite for advancing Europe’s strategic autonomy in defense capabilities. A fragmented EU internal market, with 27 different approaches, restrictions, and procedures, prevents European disruptive defense companies from scaling up quickly and becoming reliable players in the market.”
Strengthening collaboration and addressing market fragmentation are key steps toward building a more resilient and unified European defense industry.
