As a follow-up to last week’s meeting, Prime Minister Kristen Michal visited the defence industry companies of the EKTL, where a total of four companies, Milrem Robotics, Vegvisir, DefSecIntel Solutions and Go Craft, organised a technology demo for him.
According to Michal, the development of the defence industry is one of the government’s priorities to secure Estonia’s national security and boost entrepreneurship, thereby giving the economy a boost. “We have set ourselves the goal of creating better conditions for increasing the turnover of the defence industry and supporting cooperation between Estonian and Ukrainian companies, including in the reconstruction of Ukraine,” Michal said after the meeting on 6 August.
Taavi Veskimäe, Chairman of the Council of the Defence and Aerospace Industry Association, stressed that the new coalition agreement sends an important signal that Estonia’s defence capabilities are inextricably linked to the local defence industry. He stressed the need to incorporate this principle into the National Defence Act and to involve the local industry in defence development planning. According to Veskimäe, in the last 15 years, the Estonian defence industry has reached a level of producing cutting-edge technologies that support both Ukraine and the Estonian economy. He stressed that for further development, long-term partnership and security of the country is necessary.
EKTL would like to thank all participants for a productive day!
